Summer break means less structured time and a lot more screen time for our kids. To help handle those digital challenges, the National Child Protection Task Force (NCPTF) shared a great guide for parents.
Here are 4 quick ways to protect your kids online before school starts back up:
1️⃣ Sketch Out a "Digital Map" Together: Sit down with your kids to set clear online boundaries. Decide which apps/sites are allowed, establish screen-free zones (like bedrooms and bathrooms), and set hours for internet use.
2️⃣ Be a "Garden Fence," Not an Impenetrable Shield: Use the parental controls built into your home Wi-Fi and your kids' devices to filter out what they aren't ready for yet. Pro Tip: Download the apps and games your kids use so you can see firsthand how they work.
3️⃣ Keep "Pixels" and "Stars" Balanced: Build tech breaks into the family routine. Encourage plenty of offline chapters this summer—like outdoor trails, sports, or creative projects—to balance out the screen time.
4️⃣ Handle Mistakes with Grace: If your child makes a mistake online, handle it with understanding rather than immediate punishment. Kids often hide online dangers because they fear losing their devices. Think of it like a late-night call for a safe ride home—focus on safety and trust first.
Let’s ensure our students have a summer that is both fun and secure! 💻🌿

We know, we know—it's officially the weekend! But we couldn’t let the week end without giving a massive "Thank You" to the people who handle our most precious cargo. This past Tuesday, April 28th, was School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and at East Porter, we think they deserve a celebration all year long!
Our drivers and aides are the first smiling faces our students see in the morning and the last ones to wish them a safe evening. They navigate early mornings, tight turns, and every kind of Indiana weather imaginable—all while keeping safety their #1 priority.
Thank you to our bus drivers and aides for all you do to keep East Porter moving!

If you think your calendar is full, try walking a mile in a principal's shoes! Today, we are celebrating the legends at the helm of our East Porter schools. They wear a lot of hats (sometimes literally on spirit days!), and they do it all with a coffee in one hand and a walkie-talkie in the other. Our principals are the heart of our buildings. They keep us safe, keep us learning, and keep us laughing.
To our fearless leaders: Thank you for your endless patience, your late nights, and for always putting our students first!

Building more than just a lesson plan... 🤝✨
This week, we stop by the classroom of one of our newest faces at Morgan Township Middle High School, Mr. McClintock.
Mr. McClintock has created a unique space where collaboration and cohesion take center stage. It’s a classroom often filled with vibrant conversation and a focus on "team concept" building, helping students learn how to work together toward a common goal.
