Announcement of new superintendent

The East Porter County School Corporation Board of School Trustees is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Reid Amones as the district’s next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Amones brings nearly three decades of educational experience and a deep commitment to student success, staff development, and community engagement. Entering his 30th year in education, he has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout Northwest Indiana, building a reputation as a collaborative leader dedicated to helping students and schools reach their full potential.

“A deep commitment to excellence and providing world-class experiences for students are some of the characteristics that initially attracted me to East Porter County School Corporation,” said Dr. Amones. “Additionally, a dedicated staff and strong leadership throughout the corporation who put students and their needs first have heightened my excitement to be the next superintendent in EPCSC.”

Dr. Amones began his educational career as a mathematics teacher in the Portage Township Schools, where he also coached varsity baseball, freshman basketball, and middle school football. He later spent nearly 15 years as a building-level administrator, serving as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Willowcreek Middle School in Portage, Principal of George Rogers Clark Middle/High School in Hammond, and Assistant Principal and Principal at Valparaiso High School.

For the past eight years, Dr. Amones has served as Executive Director of Personnel for the Merrillville Community School Corporation, where he has worked closely with district leaders to recruit, develop, and support high-quality educators, while advancing district initiatives focused on student achievement and organizational excellence.

Throughout his career, Dr. Amones has demonstrated a passion for leadership development and mentoring. He has served multiple terms as a mentor through the Indiana New Administrator Leadership Institute (INALI), helping guide and support aspiring school leaders across the state. In addition, he has spent more than a decade as an adjunct instructor for Grand Canyon University, teaching in the School of Education’s master’s program for future school administrators.

As he prepares to begin his tenure, Dr. Amones emphasized the importance of relationship-building and community engagement.

“Initially, I want to begin by meeting, talking with, and learning about each school campus, community, students, and families,” he said. “Being able to build and develop these relationships will help me know how I can best support and further develop the already strong programs and processes that exist throughout the corporation.”

Dr. Amones earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Indiana University, a Master of Science degree in Secondary Education and Administration from Indiana University Northwest, an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Oakland City University.

Dr. Amones and his wife, Brandi, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary this fall. Together, they have three children: Julia (26), Elizabeth (24), and Phillip (21).

“I am very appreciative of the opportunity to serve the East Porter County School Corporation as the next superintendent of schools,” Dr. Amones said. “I look forward to meeting and working alongside each of you as we continue to Challenge All Students To Grow and Excel!”

The East Porter County School Corporation looks forward to welcoming Dr. Amones and partnering with him as he leads the district into its next chapter of excellence and opportunity.
