The East Porter Natural Helpers is a nationally recognized peer-to-peer support program. The Natural Helpers Program trains students—identified by their peers and staff as trusted, compassionate leaders—to support classmates facing challenges with friendships, family, academics, or emotional well-being. Natural Helpers are not counselors, but they are equipped with skills to listen, encourage, and connect their peers to appropriate resources. By doing so, they help reduce isolation, promote resilience, and strengthen our school community.
Program Overview:
Student Selection: Each high school will select eight students, identified by peers and staff, to attend an overnight retreat as new participants.
Horizon Crew: Returning students will be invited to serve as “Horizon Crew” leaders. Four students from each high school trained in the fall of 2025 as the first Horizon Crew, helping to guide activities and mentor future participants.
Retreat & Activities: This overnight retreat introduce students to the Natural Helpers framework through interactive workshops on communication, trust, affirmation, self-care, and time management. These skills will help them serve as supportive leaders within their schools.
Ongoing Impact: Following the retreat, Natural Helpers will serve as peer mentors at the high school level and support middle school students through monthly activities promoting empathy, leadership, and inclusivity.

Power is currently out at our Washington Township campus. This is the only campus impacted. The others are operating normally. We are in contact with NIPSCO to determine the cause and estimated restoration time. Our backup generators are fully operational, and all students are being served a hot lunch as scheduled. The building is safe, and we are monitoring the situation closely. We will provide further updates as they become available.

Campbell and McGowan Named IBCA First-Team Academic All-State

The IBCA Academic All-State program is one where academic prowess and athletic prowess both are considered in the selections. Items such as grade-point average, academic class rank and SAT or ACT scores are considered along with athletic performance in areas such as points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game.

IBCA-member head coaches from schools across the state may nominate their senior student-athletes who meet criteria that include a 3.50 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, a class rank in the upper 25 percent of one's class and either an SAT score of 1100 (on the reading and math sections) or an ACT composite score of 24. Once nominations were received, an IBCA committee reviewed the information and determined awards for first team and honorable mention.
