Students in Mr. Yong’s PLTW classes continue to shine as they explore hands-on learning rooted in creativity, problem-solving, and real-world application. Across grade levels, students are diving into STEM challenges that push them to think critically and collaborate effectively. Mr. Yong’s classroom has become a hub of innovation where students are encouraged to experiment, test ideas, and learn through purposeful design.
Recently, sixth-grade students have been hard at work building and programming their own Micro:bit cars—an exciting project that blends engineering with computer science. Students designed the basic structure of their vehicles, wired them with Micro:bit controllers, and wrote code that allowed their cars to move, turn, and navigate obstacles. The room has been buzzing with excitement as students troubleshoot, refine, and celebrate each successful test run. This project has given students valuable experience with coding logic, circuitry, and mechanical design, all while reinforcing teamwork and perseverance.
Mr. Yong’s commitment to providing meaningful STEM experiences is evident in the enthusiasm of his students and the high-quality work they produce. Whether constructing prototypes, coding interactive devices, or solving engineering challenges, students in his PLTW classes are developing skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Morgan Township is proud of their achievements and grateful for the engaging learning environment Mr. Yong continues to cultivate.
